Many in our family are fans of Diana Gabaldon's historical romances. Outlander, the first in a series of six novels, begins in Inverness, Scotland, in 1946 and goes back and forth in time between the 18th and 20th centuries and in space between Scotland, France, the Carribbean, and the United States. Emily and I study the map of Inverness for a clue as to where it all might have started.
